Tips on growing Birds Eye Chillis?

I have a small (15cm) birds eye chilli plant in a pot which was growing well and producing lots of chillis. All of a sudden it has gone pale in colour and some foliage appears to be dying. I am watering it about twice a week. Any advice on foods, fertilisers, position, watering etc would be much appreciated as I regularly use chillis in cooking and they aren't cheap to buy!Tips on growing Birds Eye Chillis?
Hey xCaliba,

Sounds like something changed! Did you move the plant? Did you fertalize it? Or did you recently purchase it?

Check the plants root system, if you can gently pull it from it's pot, they should be slightly moist, not dripping. The roots should be vital (white, growing, crispy looking) not mushy. If you see little bugs, dashing around in the soil, it could be mealy bugs, or spider mites.

Assure that you have drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. If not, put some in the bottom, and place it on a tray or drain catch of some sort. A plate will do. Let it dry out before watering. When you do water, water only at the base of the plant, and so that the water comes out the drain holes. This will flush the natural salts out the bottom, allowing the plant to take up desireable nutrients. Then let it dry out again, and then repeat.

Fertilizers, - I like the blue water... it is easy to put a small amount of the crystals into water, and not give the plant too much. Never put it on the plant, only at the roots.

Position, - best sun! Chillis love sun.

Growing Indoors: Chillis are actually perennials, which are usually grown as annuals. This year we intend to grow our chillis which we will move indoors for the winter in pots so we won't have to transplant them in the autumn. Chillis which are moved indoors often lose their leaves. We now have enough information from other gardeners to believe that chillis may be deciduous. Some of them grow as big as trees and maybe they just lose their leaves like oak trees.
